From South Africa with Love
If you think that it is not polite to discuss politics, religion, money and racism, then this book is not for you.
No topic is off limits.
Carmin shares a glimpse of her life growing up in Southern Africa, weaved into the history of colonisation, apartheid and democracy.
Some chapters are cold and hard, just like the laws and doctrines that they expose; others are more light-hearted and amusing.
None of them are necessarily comfortable to read.
There are chapters on conscription, war, corruption, censorship and farm murders, sandwiched between chapters on language, food, health and taxis.
Revealingly, the merry-go-round exposed in the microcosmic study of one country speaks to the games at play the world over ...

Carmin was born in Zimbabwe during the Rhodesian bush war, grew up in South Africa towards the end of the apartheid era and later emigrated to Australia with her husband Greg and their three sons.
Although she doesn’t consider herself an author or even a writer, much of her day outside of working as an optometrist, is spent writing educational books and professional courses.
